Chilton County experienced more than its share of newsworthy events in 2009.
Some were humorous (deer breaking into local buildings on two different occasions), and some were unfortunate (murders, layoffs).
Entering 2010, a new year and a new decade, it may be best to focus on the progress the county has made.
The city of Jemison was at the forefront of the trend with new sidewalks, new lights at its Interstate exit, and new intermediate school and a new municipal building that is still under construction.
A civic center is being added to the Jefferson State Community College campus in Clanton, and the facility will be an asset to the county.
Also worth mention is the relocation of Clanton’s two vehicle dealerships to locations near the Interstate. McKinnon Toyota and Stokes Automotive now boast flashy new homes and inventory that can be seen by motorists traveling toward Montgomery or Birmingham.
These events would lead one to conclude the new year and the new decade should bring even more progress for the county.
Though we know the world isn’t perfect, here’s hoping the future comes without more of those negative stories.
