New-look Patriot girls defeat Victory

From staff reports

Chilton Christian Academy’s girls basketball team evened its conference record at 1-1 with a 35-25 win over Victory Baptist (Millbrook) on Dec. 11.
The Patriots (7-2 overall) picked up the win using a run-and-gun system installed this season.
“We have traditionally been a team that slows the ball down and runs designed sets, but the girls wanted to pick up the pace and try something new,” CCA coach Todd Stephens said.
Stephens said the team’s lone senior, guard Summer Hall, has had much to do with the team’s success.
Hall recorded nine points and five steals against Victory, but sophomore center Greda Brock led the team in scoring with 13 points.
“It has helped having some new players step up and [Hall] lead the way,” Stephens said. “The girls have a lot of confidence in her. After all, she has been playing for me since 7th grade.
“We have learned to read each other like a book, and she has become the floor general. Our new style is coming together, and we should be rolling good by the start of the second half of the season.”
CCA’s boys were also victorious against Victory, winning 59-49.
Sophomore shooting guard  Matthew Klein and junior center Tyler Gray each had 15 points.
Senior forward Tim Harris scored 12 points.
