Column: Reading coach will help Thorsby students prepare for Dibels

Thorsby High School reading coach Karen Watley will present an explanation of the Dibels Assessment and be available for questions from parents at the monthly Title 1 Parental Involvement Meeting on Nov. 12 at 6 p.m.
Watley will cover reading topics to assist parents with understanding the upcoming assessment and ways to make their children better readers. The students in grades K-2 will be taking the Dibels Assessment during the month of December.
The school sponsored “Destination Graduation” on Nov. 9 to assist seniors with the upcoming Alabama High School Graduation Exam. Representatives from Thorsby High School, Chilton County central office and the State Department of Education met with the students to discuss their current scores and remediation classes and to help students establish both short- and long-term goals. The meeting was organized by school counselor Amanda Holsomback.
Stephen Pounders and Ellen Doughty organized the school’s Veteran’s Day program for Nov. 10. Members of the Student Government Association, Thorsby High School Marching Band, and students enlisting in the military after graduation were part of the program. The students of Thorsby High School recognize the efforts of all military veterans and would like to say “Thank you.”
