Jemison police makes drug arrest

By SCOTT MIMS / News Editor

Jemison Police arrested a Bessemer man Sunday night after an Interstate traffic stop turned up approximately 1 pound of marijuana.

Jose Ibarrac, 23, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana first degree, a Class-C felony charge.

Jemison Police Sgt. Randy Morris made the stop about 9 p.m. near the 220-mile marker.

The suspect, a Hispanic male, reportedly seemed  nervous.

Morris and Officer Floyd Glass performed a search of the 2004 Chevrolet pickup and found the drugs hidden under the back seat.

“These guys do a good job to get drugs like that off the street,” Jemison Chief of Police Shane Fulmer said. “Whether they (the drugs) were en route to Jemison or not, it’s good for everybody. These guys do an excellent job, and they work hard.”

Pending paperwork, the department may seize the truck and either use it or place it up for auction.
